Game Of Thrones Mockingbird Pin – Product Review

Game of Thrones Littlefinger Mockingbird Pin

Product Review

I’ve been a Game of Thrones fan since the initial book so you can imagine my delight when the stories came to television. I’m particularly enthralled with the Direwolf bookends which were created by Darkhorse in honor of this series.

Of course, Dark Horse had to make more tempting GOT swag. It’s with some embarrassment that I confess I didn’t want this pin because of Game of Thrones. Littlefinger (Petyr Baelish) is not one of my favorite characters though he does make the series interesting.

On the other hand, Atticus Finch is among my Top Ten Fictional Heroes. I’ve loved Atticus since I read To Kill a Mockingbird in junior high. I don’t make it a practice of re-reading most books, but I have re-read TKAM more than once and I now own the audio so I can listen whenever I want. I’ve upgraded the movie from VHS to DVD and Blu-Ray, too.

“Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Atticus tells his son, Jem, when he is learning to shoot. Miss Maudie explains to the children what their father meant. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”

Dark Horse did a lovely job on the mockingbird pin. For those of you wanting GOT authenticity, this is identical to Petyr’s pin in design. The pin is made of pewter with a safety pin fastener at the back. In the packaging, the pin seems featherweight, but when you have the piece in your hand, it has a solid feel like every Dark Horse product I’ve had the pleasure to handle. The patina is very nice. What I particularly like is that there are no sharp edges to snag on your clothing if you choose to wear the pin.

Outside of GOT fandom, there’s enough detail for my birder friends to be able to tell what the bird is. I’m not sure who this pin will remind people of when I wear it. If anyone wants one like it for either reason, I believe they will be pleased with their purchase.

I wear this pin with pride. Not for Littlefinger, but for Atticus.
