What is the difference between
The Amazing Spiderman, The Specular Spiderman, & The Ultimate Spiderman?
All three are children of this century. The film, The Amazing Spiderman, 2012 is for the most part related with Marvel Earth #616 , in the comics of the same name, The Amazing Spiderman. It does however still have a few elements taken from The Ultimate Spiderman comic books to try to avoid continuity conflict with earlier movies in the franchise. There is one glaring change which should require a spoiler alert. So consider yourself warned.
Begin Spoiler Alert:
In the original Spiderman back story, Peter Parker gains his superpowers after having been bitten by a radioactive spider while on a field trip. The new movie connects Peter’s own father, who died when Peter was 6 years, with cross species genetic research.
End of spoiler alert.
The Specular or more likely The Spectacular Spiderman has never appeared in film as it refers to the TV animated series of 2008. While The Spectacular Spiderman TV series stays fairly close to the original Marvel source materiel it does have a few elements of the The Ultimate Spiderman in it as is natural as The Ultimate Spiderman was out at the same time.
As to The Ultimate Spiderman, it was a “re-imagining” of the original Spiderman, updating and modernizing Spidey for the 21st century and was published from 2000 to 2009. It also has incarnations on TV as an animated series (circa April 1, 2012) of a teenage Peter Parker learning to cope with his newfound abilities much the same as a youthful Kal-El did in Smallville. The first issue has sold for as much as $190 which is quite a lot considering it is relatively new. The Ultimate Spiderman also has come out as a video game. A new Marvel animated series called Ultimate Spider-Man first aired in the United States on April 1, 2012
