How many people have played Dr. Hannibal Lecter?

Dear Joey,

Is this a trick question? Brian Cox played Hannibal Lecktor (note the spelling) in the 1986 film MANHUNTER, based on Thomas Harris’ novel RED DRAGON. Since then, Anthony Hopkins has famously won an Oscar for his performance as Hannibal Lecter in 1991’s SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and reprised the role in 2001’s HANNIBAL and 2002’s RED DRAGON, a remake of MANHUNTER (or another adaptation of Harris’ novel, depending on one’s point of view). Ben Whishaw played the young Hannibal Lecter is 2007’s HANNIBAL RISING. A TV series entitled HANNIBAL starring Mads Mikkelsen as the character is now in pre-production.
