Dumbledore VS Gandalf. Who Would Win The Battle?

By Sara Bellum · Comments (0)

Dear Sara,

We all know that if Superman fought Gandalf (be he White or Grey) that the wizard would win because the man of steel has no defences aginst magic. However, who do you think would win in a fight…Dumbledore or Gandalf. One is a trained combat wizard but the other is smart AND cunning.

Thank You,
Lomax Lomat

Dear Lomax Lomat

Without a doubt Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore would be the winner. I know those twinkling eyes and lemon sherbets have a tendency to give the impression of a wise but doddering old wizard but a look at his history should clear up that notion. Dumbeldore had to fight the strongest Dark Wizard of the 20th century, Gellert Grinwald. It seems that Dumbeldore was infatuated with him and so did not see the danger till it was almost too late. This was Dumbeldore’s “great tragedy”. To quote JK Rowling “He lost his moral compass completely when he fell in love and I think subsequently became very mistrustful of his own judgment in those matters so became quite asexual. He led a celibate and a bookish life”. After defeating Grinwald who was to wizards what Adolf Hitler was to muggles, Dumbeldore then had to face a child that at one time he had rescued from a muggle orphanage only to have him become a monster. Tom Riddle who fashioned himself into Lord Voldermort was not easy to defeat and Dumbeldore was the one to lead the fight the first time Tom had risen to power. Even the second time when prophesy foretold Harry Potter to be the one to defeat Tom, Dumbeldore fought him in a one on one duel long before the final battle. As both Gandalf and Dumbeldore fought on the side of light I can’t think of any situation they would be fighting each other. In fact there are many similarities in their life journeys.

As to Gandalf in battle, he was extraordinarily powerful and wise. When he returned from the dead as Gandalf the White he was even stronger. He faced down Balrog and fought Sauruman’s forces at the battle of Helm’s Deep. Gandalf was no shrinking violet. In the end though it wasn’t Gandalf who defeated Sauron, although let’s face it, Sauron was far more deadly all though not necessarily more vicious than Voldermort.

A SHARD GLOWS IN BROOKLYN
By Alex Shvartsman

magic crystal, supernatural murder mystery

One by one, I set off car alarms.

I walked along the curb and methodically gave each parked car a gentle kick, just hard enough to trigger the siren. Behind me, a dozen violated vehicles already blared out of tune.

The prospect hung back, sullen and quiet. He was having a tough week, and my erratic behavior wasn’t helping his mood any. With each siren adding its voice to the cacophony, the prospect got a little twitchier. To his credit, he hadn’t cut and run. Yet.

“Philippine Energy Beetles are nasty critters,” I lectured him as we walked, straining to be heard over the noise. “They nest by the power lines and feed off the electricity. Those flickering lights the power company says are caused by faulty wiring are often caused by an infestation.”

Having finished with the cars, I fumbled with the lock on the front door of a vacant house.

“This place is lousy with beetles,” I explained. “We’re gonna have to fumigate.”

“That’s just great,” said the prospect. “I can’t stand bugs. Now you tell me the Watch is in the exterminator business? This couldn’t possibly get any worse.”

THE CENTURION AND THE RAINMAN
By Lou Antonelli

Urban Fantasy Magic Fcition

Corporal Doncard bit down on an unlit cigar so his teeth wouldn’t chatter as his antique patrol car eased along the badly rutted streets of Magtown. He gripped the steering wheel, knuckles white. The pre-Change vehicle was supposed to be safe from spell static. He knew not to trust that. Anything with an electrical system was vulnerable.

“The roads don’t get repaved in this neighborhood,” Lieutenant Neely said from the passenger side. “What’s still left of the asphalt goes back to the Obama Era.” He shot the young corporal a glance. “You ever see anyone’s who’s been torced?”

Doncard shook his head. “I’ve never spent any time in Magtown.” He’d heard of torcing, seen crime scene sketches. No photos, cameras wouldn’t operate near a corpse for weeks afterward from the residual magic.

How Was Harry Potter Rescued As A Baby?

By Sara Bellum · Comments (1)
Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Dear Sara,

How was Harry Potter rescued as a baby? How could Dumbledore and Hagrid know James and Lily Potter had been killed when it was Peter Pettigrew who was their Secret Keeper?

Thanks,
Becky W.

Hi Becky,

The Potters lived in Godric’s Hollow which is a wizard village. Bathilda Bagshot was a neighbor and I suppose a Death Eater attack led by Voldermort would be loud and flashy enough to alert the neighborhood. Someone could have sent a floo message or a Patronus notifying Dumbeldore immediately and he would have then dispatched Hagrid.
