Magic Mike - Movie Review
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Writers: Reid Carolin
Stars: Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Olivia Munn, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello

Didja ever wonder what Joe Manganiello was doing on his days off from “True Blood”? He was co-starring in a movie about male strippers, loosely based on Channing Tatum’s experiences when he was nineteen. Magic Mike opened, unsurprisingly, to largely female crowds. I saw it in a theater that was a little over half full, with about ninety percent of the audience women. They were really engaged, starting with the previews and continuing through the film–laughing out loud, clapping, and cheering when appropriate.

Another is that Alan Ball, who brought TRUE BLOOD to episodic premium cable and has been its show runner from the beginning, will continue in that capacity.

Joe Manganiello portrays Alcide Herveaux in True Blood, the werewolf construction worker who sometimes works for vampires. Alcide is presented as a man with working class values and a definite soft spot for one telepathic waitress – but he comes with baggage (don’t they all ladies?), specifically a V-addicted raging ex girlfriend.
We had the chance to ask Joe some questions a couple of days before his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers appeared in Super Bowl XLV. Joe shares his favorite workout music, his motto for living and what the gloomy donkey, Eeyore, from “Winnie the Pooh” has to do with True Blood.
TB-N: It’s hard to find a single article about you that does not mention your abs or physical attributes. Does it get old for you? What does Joe really see when he looks in the mirror?
JM: My idol as a young actor was Robert DeNiro who was famous for inhabiting his characters and transforming himself physically.
Alcide Herveaux
Sookie Stackhouse meets a guy with a pulse
On the surface Alcide Herveaux is the kind of guy many mothers would love to see their daughters date. He is well spoken, family oriented, hard working with a good income coming in from his contractoring business. This drop dead gorgeous alpha male is simply oozing testosterone.
He knows how to sweep a girl off her feet yet still minds his manners like a true gentleman. He is also a werewolf, guess nobody is perfect. When you are a telepathic waitress from a small Louisiana town like Bon Temps and have been recently courted by not one but two powerful vampires it is refreshing to find a guy who doesn’t broadcast his thoughts the way the average human male does yet can still spend the day with you at the beach. Alcide is the son of the leader of the Long Tooth pack and he and Sookie meet when as a favor to Eric he assists Sookie in a mission to retrieve Bill. Bill had been kidnapped by Lorena, his ex or at least that is how it appears. This was way back in Book 3 of the Southern Vampire series, “Club Dead”.
Being female it doesn’t take Sookie very long to feel the pull of Alcide’s “animal magnetism” so to speak. She isn’t about to fall into bed with him but it is hard not to compare this very warm blooded man to the room temperature males that have been claiming her attentions recently.

JOE MANGANIELLO INTERVIEW
By Abbie Bernstein
Most actors prefer to play complex characters, but relatively few are given the opportunity to play a character that embodies two different species. Actor Joe Manganiello (pronounced MAN-ga with a hard g nel-lo) has given a lot of thought to playing construction worker/werewolf/potential Sookie Stackhouse suitor on the third season of the Emmy-nominated HBO series TRUE BLOOD, created and produced by Alan Ball from the Southern vampire books by Charlaine Harris. “I think it makes things a little bit more complex, and I think with the fact it is a shapeshifter and the fact that they only shift into one animal, there are a lot of those traits that at any point in time are present. I think there’s kind of a sliding rule between human and wolf. At any point in time, they can exhibit qualities of both.”
