Quantum of Solace
A James Bond Movie Review

by June Williams

For many years I was not a fan of the James Bond movie franchise. I loved Ian Fleming’s books but what I saw on film was like looking at the comic book version and that is an insult to comic books because when done well comics can exceed pulp fiction and aspire to art.

T.V. Fans & the Age of the World Wide Web

Many things have changed as a result of easy access to the net. You don’t have to run out in a blizzard to send a nifty present to your Uncle in the back woods of Maine. Instead you can browse through a zillion stores, make the purchase online and have it to him as soon as the next day if you are willing to pay a little extra for shipping. The internet has something for everyone and provides a way of sharing information and thoughts with an unbelievable amount of people almost instantaneously. It has given people who watch television a way to turn a one way medium into an interactive community. Televison fans find their way to sites that worship the show or individual characters and actors from the series. Eventually they reach forums that discuss every aspect of the show as well as the cast, characters, writing staff, directors and producers. This is the breeding ground for fan movements that existed in the pre internet world but now reach numbers that could only have been dreamed about in the past.

harry dresden, wizard

Have I mentioned lately how much I love “The Dresden Files?” It was long and ago that I first discovered Jim Butcher and his intrepid wizard hero, Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only practicing wizard (he’s in the yellow pages, go check for yourself). In fact it’s going on ten years now, or, there about. Hard to believe that Butcher has written 11 Dresden files book, 5 Codex Alera books, a Spiderman novel, a Dresden graphic novel, two novellas, and who knows how many short stories for various anthologies. Prolific much?

Moon Called - A Review
A Mercy thompson Novel - Book 1
by Patricia Briggs

Walk down the aisles devoted to Sci-Fi & Fantasy in any bookstore or library these days and you will find yourself deluged with paranormal, supernatural, and urban fantasy fiction. With all that output there are a half dozen or so authors that float like cream to the top. Patricia Briggs is one of those.

The Big Bang Theory - CBS Television Series - Review
by June Williams
© Buzzy Multimedia

From the opening theme song sung by the Bare Naked Ladies to the on staff physicist whose job it is to check facts on technical babble in the scripts you can guess that this is not just an average sitcom. While the show has nothing to do with Science Fiction or Fantasy the core male characters are steeped in the genre up to and sometimes well past their collective eyeballs. They spend one night a week playing Halo 3 together and even Penny their beautiful very normal non-genius neighbor ends up getting sucked into Age of Conan when she falls into a pit of self loathing. Their other recreational pursuits include but are not limited to paintball, Renfaires, Klingon Boggle, a yearly pilgrimage to Comic Con, going in costume to things like Planets of the Apes marathons and watching and critiquing Sci Fi & Fantasy movies and television shows.

I,Strahd by P.N. Elrod
An Audio Book Review
Narrated by Roddy McDowall

A long, long time ago my husband and I were married. It was so long ago that not only did dinosaurs roam the earth but it was all the rage to have a vehicle with a tape deck in it. Everyone who knew us referred to us in polite company as “likeable but crazy as hell.” As a lot of newly married folks do, we went off on a honeymoon to celebrate the beginning of our married life together, and there was no better way to kick things off than with a madcap adventure in a Jeep Cherokee with a tape deck.

Kids Need To Read
(KNTR)

Kids need to read. Never a truer statement was made. In my “past life” I was a elementary school teacher. One of the many things teaching gave me is a profound insight on how children learn, interpret and acquire language. The language a child learns enables him/her to explore all different aspects of themselves and the world around them. When you think about it, the most successful people are the ones who are best able to be in command of words, whether they are writing, speaking or interpreting information.
